A new report out of Pennsylvania indicates that $1.3M of their $1.9B in unclaimed property belongs to places of worship including churches, synagogues, religious schools and social service organizations across the State. The State Treasurer (Rob McCord) has ramped up EFFORTS to track down the rightful owners and reunite them with their property
"We hold over $1.3 million in unclaimed property that is owed to churches, synagogues, religious schools and social service organizations across the state. We want to return that property so these institutions can continue to serve their neighbors," said McCord.
The State's treasury's for unclaimed property is an online database at Unclaimed Property Database for Pennsylvania
The State also collects Unclaimed property including jewelry, collectible coins, and medals, which are kept in the treasury's vault. When attempts to locate the owner are unsuccessful, the items are auctioned on eBay and then the proceeds of the auction are then maintained for the owner to claim.
Each year, the treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property — things such as abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, insurance policies, uncashed checks and contents etc....
